What is the Edinburgh International Book Festival?

The Edinburgh International Book Festival was founded in 1983 and has grown into the world’s largest book festival — a 16-day programme featuring nearly 600 events with hundreds of authors from across the world. The festival hosts novelists, poets, journalists, biographers, scientists, activists, philosophers, and political figures in conversation about their work.

For decades, the festival was held in Charlotte Square Gardens (its iconic spiritual home). From 2024 onwards, the festival relocated to the Edinburgh Futures Institute on Lauriston Place — a beautifully restored former hospital building…
