Rare Book School (RBS) Summer 2024 Summer Classes. RBS provides continuing-education opportunities for students from all disciplines and skill levels to study the history of written, printed, and digital materials with leading scholars and professionals in the field.

About the Event
Rare Book School (RBS) is pleased to announce its summer 2024 course schedule! The RBS list of more than 30 in-person and online courses can be found at rarebookschool.org/schedule. The registration window will open in January and there is a first round deadline of February 19, 2024 to apply for classes which will be held beginning in June, 2024.
New and updated courses for 2024 include:
- The Book in Ming China: History & Analysis (H-145), taught by Martin Heijdra, He Bian & Soren Edgren
- A History of the Indigenous Book in the Americas (H-150), taught by Will Hansen & Robert Warrior
- The Printing Press in Spanish America, 1492–1833 (H-175v), taught by Albert A. Palacios
- An Environmental History of the Book (H-190), taught by Eric Slauter
- The Identification of Photographic & Digital Print Processes (I-35), taught by Ryan Boatright
- Medieval Manuscript Fragments: Cataloging & Discoverability (L-145), taught by Lisa Fagin Davis
- Modern Special Collections Cataloging (L-150), taught by Brenna Bychowski
- Institutional Book Arts Collections: Evaluating & Describing (L-155v), taught by Robert Riter
- The History of Typography (T-10), taught by Jill Gage & Sasha Tochilovsky

Rare Book School’s summer 2024 in-person courses in Charlottesville will be offered in the University of Virginia’s recently renovated main library. Our second-floor suite boasts state-of-the-art classrooms, ample exhibition and event spaces, and spacious storage areas for our collections and printing equipment.
