Transmississippi inscribed by Wheat on the front endpaper to western history colleague and author Charles L. Camp, "with every good wish, Nov. 12, 1957". Mapping of the American West warmly inscribe by Wheat to Camp on the copyright: 'To Charles L. Camp, Without whose aid and counsel, this study could not have been developed, with keen appreciation, Carl." Green cloth backs, lettered in gilt and linen over boards; over 300 reproductions of historical maps, many folding. In original plain brown paper jackets. Mapping the American West, 194pp. ,8vo, in printed blue wrappers. Laid in are two June 27, 1966 programs for services In Memory of Carl Irving Wheat, 1892-1966. One with Wheat's bookplate tipped-in of front, the other program without the bookplate. Also laid in, the publication announcement fromt the Institute of Historical Cartography, 8 leaves in cream wrappers. And for good measure, laid in is an advertising reproduction of a menu for the Fior d'Italia Restaurant, San Francisco, May 1, 1886.
