This is an original handwritten musical composition entitled An Epitome for Strings by I Copeland. It has been bound in hardback black cloth with simple gilt titling to spine. 36 × 26cm, 42 pages. After a handwritten title page, there are instructions for the orchestra (12 1st violins, 12 2nd violins, 10 violas, 6 'cellos, and 2 double base), with a drawings of the orchestra layout and a note which reads "when the above orchestra is split to form two orchestras during the composition, the numbers of the performing players are divided equally, is 6–6-5–3-1 + 6–6-5–3-1." Then follows the compositions which is in four parts: 1. Progress, 2. Interim, 3. Masquerade, 4. a. Reverie, and b. Epilogue.

The composition is on printed musical sheets but otherwise entirely handwritten. I can find nothing out about the composer but this would appear to be quite an intense and developed piece, perhaps musical college level. It is undated but I would suggest mid-twentieth century.

Condition

The book is in very good condition, there are some minor abrasions to the black cloth boards but the handwritten pages are in very good condition.
