TOP EDGE GILT (TEG)
Feature
Refers to the application of metallic gold or a gold-colored finish to only the top edge of the text block.
The example shows a text block with a gold-colored finish that is not metallic gold.

UNIFORM EDITION
General
A series of volumes of an author's works with a uniform binding style and size. These were commonly published as complete sets, but were sometimes serialized with volumes published sequentially over a period of time.
The example images show a uniform edition that was issued in a serialized manner. The volumes were issued individually, every two years, until the edition was complete.

VELLUM
Feature
A thin sheet of specially prepared calf skin which is not tanned but de-greased to be used for writing, printing, or as a binding material; considered superior in quality to parchment. If the skin cannot be identified as calf, current practice trends toward use of the term parchment which encompasses most prepared animal skins.

VOLVELLE
Feature
A slide chart of one or more graduated or printed concentric, rotating disks, sometimes pinned to a leaf, and rotated to make a calculation or display information. A modern volvelle, sometimes called a wheel chart, is typically made of paper card stock and may be bound into a book or be an independent, hand-held object. Collectors value both types and consider the latter to be collectable ephemera.
The first image is the recto of a volvelle and displays the route and mileage from Silver Springs, FL to major cities. The second image is the verso and displays the route and mileage from Weeki Wachee Springs, FL to major cities.
The Grolier Club, New York, NY USA, displayed and documented a great variety of volvelles in the exhibition Volvelles: the Magnificent Art of Circular Charting.
