First UK Edition/First Printing with no mention of subsequent printings and the correct statement on the copyright page; A Fine book in a Near Fine dust jacket. SIGNED by the author on the dedication page. Housed in a gorgeous custom clamshell box. A beautiful copy of this first UK edition of the classic novel; although not the true first (this book first published in 1967 in Argentina), this edition is quite scarce in the marketplace, much less commonly found then the first US edition; in addition, this book is quite rare in this condition, particularly signed. This novel is often cited as one of the supreme achievements in literature, having been translated into 46 languages and selling more than 50 million copies worldwide. This copy is in fine condition with a square, tight binding, bright gold lettering over clean green boards, and a bright burgundy top stain over clean white pages; only some very mild rubbing and sunning to the board edges keep this copy from pristine. Housed in a vibrant, clean, and crisp nearly fine dust jacket that shows only some light rubbing to the spine ends, edges, and corners, and a couple of very short closed tears, one to the top of the front panel near the spine head and one to the top of the back panel, else fine. Overall, a one of a kind item that would be the prize book in any modern literature collection; a bucket list book. Not remaindered, not price clipped (35s net intact), not ex-library; will ship very carefully wrapped in a sturdy box. One Hundred Years of Solitude tells the story of the rise and fall, birth and death of the mythical town of Macondo through the history of the Buendia family. Inventive, amusing, magnetic, sad, alive with unforgettable men and women, and with a truth and understanding that strike the soul, "One Hundred Years of Solitude" is a masterpiece of the art of fiction.
