Small, square octavo, in an early twentieth-century half crimson Morocco over textured decorative boards with matching endpages, gilt-tooled decorated spine with four raised bands. Top edge gilt, front joint and corners neatly repaired 7.375 by 6 inches. [4], xxiv, 42, [2] pp. Illustrated with eight copperplate engravings and two-pages of music. [Beauty's Song at her spinning wheel, set to music by Mr. Whittaker.]

Morocco lightly scuffed, spine joints rubbed, the bindings are tight and square. Text clean, light even toning. Moderate shelf handling wear. very good.

A delightful Leadenhall Press reprint of an 1811 rhymed version of "Beauty and the Beast" attributed to Charles Lamb, including two pages of music. Lang’s introduction discusses the origin of the “Beauty and the Beast” Tale. This original differs greatly from the popular Disney adaptation.
