Help improve IOBAs Book Terminology page

Summary: Our new website has a greatly expanded book terminology page to draw visitors to our site. It allows us to offer more text and images for each term. We need members to help by providing images, text improvements or corrections and recommendations for new terms (preferably with definitions and images).

Background; Introducing our Book Terminology page Manager:

The original IOBA Book Terminology page was a good effort and represented the organization well when first set up. We used to rank reasonably high when looking up book terms. At present this is not the case. There are a number of other websites that have looked to improve on what IOBA created.

We considered these changes with the design of the new website. The capabilities of the Book Terminology page have been greatly enhanced (and will be further improved with the next round of site changes). The page can be searched. Terms can be grouped so a visitor can, for example, look only at Features, Defects or Trade Organizations. Each term now has a page of its own, and can have many images and an optional video. Further, a term can have links to further information which can also include text and images. As a part of the site update we have added more terms and images. There is much more we can do.

The page can be seen here:

This is an important feature of our website as it is a key demonstration of our collective expertise. In the past it brought web-based respect to the organization.

Michael Watson, a past IOBA President, has agreed to become terms-meister and will manage the process of adding content to this feature. We all owe him our thanks.

What do we need?

Images:

We need additional quality images (or videos) that describe each term or that illustrate nuances. Each term can have up to three images as well as a video.

Take a look at the page, and consider offering us images that will help describe a given term. Images can be up to 2 MB in overall size, but we suggest that images be approximately 800 pixels across on the short side; this usually results in an image size under 300 KB. If you do not want to resize images, send them in anyway as big as they are and we will take care of any required changes. We ask that you do not provide images unless you have the legal right to do so.

We will credit each contribution on the website. Further, you are welcome to provide images of items that are currently for sale and can even offer up a link to that item from your preferred selling site. Please do let us know if the item sells so we can remove the selling link.

Text Corrections:

We need to hear from you when you have issues with the definitions to help us improve them. We will review your concerns or text, consulting with our Education Committee where appropriate. We also have several pages where we will be inserting extended text and can do the same thing for additional pages if you are interested in adding discussion of nuances.

New Terms:

We want to add to the number of terms. Please let us know about terms we should be adding to our page. Even better, work up a draft definition and offer up some images. See above for notes about images.
