Excerpted from Thoreau's Journal (1856), this recounts his thoughts and 'self-conversation' when, as a child, he was tasked with pursuing, capturing, and bringing home his father's escaped pig. Printed as a keepsake booklet distributed by Bruce Rogers. Illustrated with a woodcut title page vignette by Rudolph Ruzicka and a Charles R. Capon illustration of a country scene, with two men and a pig. Printed by New York fine printer Abraham Colish, and Bruce Rogers, on cream, mould made paper, trimmed at the head. Paginated ii, 14, (1), for 17 pp.
This 12mo book is 7 1/2" x 4 1/4". Saddle sewn into mauve, mould made, French flapped wraps over the free endpapers. Title in blind frame on the front.
Includes the expected 5" x 3" 'greeting' card. Printed "An / A. Colish / B. Rogers / C. Capon / BOOK / With Greetings from / [Then initialed B. R. (Bruce Rogers)] / 1948" Text in a decorative frame, all printed in red on the cream mould made card. Quite clean, sharp cornered, and in Fine condition, with greeting card the same.
